Get a silk serum to put on the points of hair extensions to protect your hair extensions.
Ask your stylist to give your hair extensions a treatment every one or two months as your extensions will get dry of water, sun and other hair equipment.
How to take care of hair extensions?
Looking after the hair extensions is very important in order to increase the life of them.
Human hair extensions will not require washing as often as our own hair, wash only when they start to look dull and lifeless.
Before shampooing, gently remove any tangles from your hair extensions. Always use a mild shampoo or one specifically formulated for chemically treated hair.
Run the hair under warm (not hot) water. Gently work the shampoo into the hair, stroking downwards from the weft base (top) to the ends. Do not twist, scrub or rub the hair.
When clean, rinse thoroughly under warm running water until the water runs clear. Be sure to rinse until all shampoo is removed, as improper rinsing could result in damage.
Just like your own hair, human hair extensions need to be conditioned after shampooing to maintain a healthy shine and promote styling ease. Place a small amount of conditioner in your hand. Gently work into the hair and let sit for three to five minutes. Rinse thoroughly in warm water. Gently towel blot to remove excess water.
While wet, gently comb the hair to remove tangles. Using a large toothed comb, move in a downward motion away from the clips and to the ends. Do not use a bristle brush on wet hair as it may pull out or break the hair.
Allow to air dry if possible, set in rollers, or use a blow dryer on a low setting, as desired.
Steam rollers and/or wet setting are the safest way to curl your human hair.
Blow dryers, curling irons and other thermal tools may be used on low settings. Remember, the hair may scorch if the setting is too high.
For cutting, or any chemical processes such as perming or coloring, take the extensions to a professional stylist.
Can the hair be colored?
You can dye the human hair. One good aspect of human hair products is that you can treat them much like your own hair when dying. Just check with your stylist and the instructions with the extensions and hair products. Because some of the hair has been processed and sterilized we do not advise doing any more chemical treatments on it as it can easily be ruined or don't come out the color you want. If you do decide to color the hair, you may test the color on a few strands first to make sure the resulting shade is what you anticipate.
How long will the hair last?
There are many factors. First you want to buy the very best quality hair, and care for it properly so they will last longer. Each person is different, depending on care for the hair, brushing, using blow dryers and hot irons, how it was applied, swimming, how often washed, etc. Due to all these factors no one can give an exact amount of days hair will last. They can last for many months or be easily ruined if not cared for properly. Ensure you wash your hair thoroughly with a clarifying shampoo on the day of your installation appointment. Clarifying shampoo is a must to make sure you remove all excessive oils and styling products build up on your hair. Fails to wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo on the day of installation will cause your strands to slip out after a period of time.
Don't apply any conditioner on your hair after washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo.
Do not colour your hair after your consultation appointment before fitting your extensions. We take down your hair colour on the day of your consultation. Colouring your hair will cause a colour difference between your hair and the hair extensions. Even if you colour your hair the same colour, a shade lighter or darker might be visible.
Do not perm your hair after your consultation appointment. Perming makes your hair very brittle or too soft and installing extensions straight after will damage your hair. A 3 (three) week period must be left for your hair to settle before installation of extensions.
For ethnic hair and relaxers: After you have relaxed your hair, you need to let your hair settle for a week before installation and most of the relaxer must be washed out. Having your hair too oily because of relaxers will cause your extensions to slip out.
